A Blessing for the New Year

I have returned from a beautiful vacation which I will write more about, hopefully soon.  I am having a little trouble transitioning from this

80 degrees and a cabana boy
to attend to my every need

to this

15-20 inches of snow expected.
Minus 15 degree wind chill.

I need to catch up a little at work and then catch up a lot on your blogs.  Until then, I leave you this -

A Blessing for the New Year
by John O’Donohue from
‘To Bless the Space Between Us”

On the day when
The weight deadens
On your shoulders
And you stumble,
May the clay dance
To balance you.

And when your eyes
Freeze behind
The gray window
And the ghost of loss gets into you,
May a flock of colors,
Indigo, red, green
and azure blue,
Come to awaken in you
A meadow of delight.

When the canvas frays
In the currach of thought
And a stain of ocean
Blackens beneath you,
May there come across the waters
A path of yellow moonlight
To bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
May the clarity of light be yours,
May the fluency of the ocean be yours,
May the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And, so may a slow
Wind work these words
Of love around you,
An invisible cloak
To mind your life.

  1. What a beautiful poem! How perfect and warm and tender.

I'm happy for you that you spent a week in the tropics, but very, very sorry that you are coming back to winter. I know that you like winter... still. This is a doozy.

  2. You were lucky to get home ahead of this storm!

Blessings to you in this new year. May it be a year of health and growth and endless love.

  3. wow, that's gorgeous, that poem. I'm grateful you had some time with cabana boys. ;) And, as Sue says, that you got home ahead of the storm and weren't dealing with it.

As for the blogs: they'll be there when you get 'round to them. No rush.

    Happy new year!
