Full of Grace

1. Only needing sedation instead general anesthesia for my last surgery which made recovery a breeze. My surgery was at 9 am and I left the hospital at 11:30. What a difference and what a relief.

2. I’ve been selected to participate in an Livestrong at the Y program for cancer survivors. It’s a 12 week program “ to help participants build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and endurance and improve functional ability. Additional goals include reducing the severity of therapy side effects, preventing unwanted weight changes and improving energy levels and self esteem. A final goal of the program is to assist participants in developing their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle, not only as part of their recovery, but as a way of life.” Sounds good to me. I’ve been in the hospital 3 times in the last 3 months, each requiring time to rest and recuperate. I have become soft and lazy and sluggish. I am excited about this.

3. Woke to an abnormally cold house with the furnace clicking on, but mostly off in 10 below weather.  Called the repair place at 6:00 am.  At 5:00 pm the repairman finally showed up my now freezing home and knocked a piece of ice off the outside intake pipe which solved the problem.  Gave me the bill for $176 for
a total of 7 minutes labor and no parts.  (there may be a bit of sarcasm in that gratitude)  Still, I was very grateful to have heat again.

4. The light is changing. Our temperatures are still way below normal and there is still a lot of snow of the ground, but the mornings are bright and sunny and it is staying light longer into the evening. March came in like a lion so it will go out like a lamb. Right????

5. This little guy/girl suddenly appeared with my seedlings. A good omen, I think.

  2. Yes, the ladybug seems like a good omen! I'm glad your surgery went well and is behind you. Just a few more days and we'll get an extra evening hour!

  3. Definitely lots of good omens! I work in a service industry company, so remember that your $176 for 7 minutes made sure that several other people had jobs, namely the person who took your call and the scheduler who made sure the technician got to your home. It's too bad it took all day, they must have been very busy, but I try to think of all the good my money did as it goes on down the line.

I'm SO happy about the increasing light! It was beautiful yesterday morning, new fallen, CLEAN snow and sunshine! It'll get bad again for the next couple of weeks after the time change this weekend, but definitely on the upswing.

Also relieved to hear your surgery recovery was easy peasy. You deserved to have something fall into that category.

    1. You make a very good point KR. I hadn't thought of all the people in the background. I will stop bitching about it, but mostly because I could afford the bill. I feel for folks in these circumstances who have to make a choice between food and heat. I do think that some companies take advantage and gouge prices when there are emergencies.

  4. We are (according to the news I am not listening to) about to have two of our coldest days. But, warmer days are ahead, or so we're told. Having it still be light when I clock out is quite uplifting.

I'm so thrilled that your surgery went well and recovery is moving apace. The *Y* deal sounds fantastic.

  5. Lady bugs run rampant in our home. I find them everywhere, even in the Winter...but I don't mind. You're right. They are so GOOD for our plants. All of our seeds are ready to be planted in their little boxes in our basement. Will get to that this weekend. I love this part, don't you? And SO glad that your heating problem was easily fixable. We live in a house built in 1917. The original boiler is still in place. Last year, for the first time, we had a few problems and spend nearly 2,000$ getting it fixed. A cold house in Winter is so much more scary than a hot house in Summer. Glad you have found so many moments of grace...
