Kitchen Rehab

BEFORE

DURING

                                                    AFTER

Overall, we are very pleased with the new kitchen.  It's much brighter and makes the kitchen look bigger.  The drawers and doors close automatically.  We added a lot of outlets and under cabinet lighting.  Pull out drawers for pot and pans and a double cabinet for garbage and recyclables.   I like the granite counters but because they are dark, I often can't see what I put down on them.   It took over 3 months and went way over what Martha told me it would cost.  But we had a lot of fun doing it (except for the floor which was a bitch)

And my cooking has not gotten any better.

  1. It is gorgeous. Updated without being super modern, retaining character and with the features, I'm sure more effecient. Fantastic job. Congratulations.

  3. It looks wonderful! I hope that you two are happy with it. And, dammit, you conquered that floor! Good on ya!
This reminded me that I still owe you a desert recipe... I'll email that!

    1. We are happy. In hindsight we would only make a few changes. The floor still has errors but I think Martha would divorce me if I tried to re-do it.

Looking forward to that recipe . . .

  4. How lovely! It is warm and inviting and the backsplash is beautiful but I can't figure out what it is? Even if your cooking did not improve it must be delightful to eat there. I am so impressed that you two did this yourselves!

    1. The back splash is copper colored tin, like they use for tin ceilings. It reflects the under counter light in a warm glow and is one of my favorite decisions.

    1. Thanks. Of course most of the improvements are buried in the walls - new insulation, new electrical, and fire walls. Good luck with your project!
