Our furnace broke and we will be almost 2 weeks without heat. Not that I am grateful for the broken furnace, nor the expense of replacing it, but I am very grateful for my down comforter keeping me cozy at night and that the temps have stayed above 30 so we don’t have to burn the furniture to keep the pipes from freezing.
Beaner gave me a gift of a macaron making class. The chef made them once, teaching us the steps - and then we ate them. Then we made our own as a group (mine were a mocha filling) and ate those too. I came home on quite the sugar high but such a good time spent with the daughter. I may try making them at home.
Looking for a cheap earring I lost, I found a good earring I had lost months ago under a dresser. Living with cats is always an adventure. Here’s a picture of one of them trying to look innocent.
This year I tried growing sweet potatoes in a container - their foliage makes for quite a lovely plant. Yesterday I dug up these which will be roasted tonight.
And finally this is coming!!!
I encourage everyone to take deep breaths and enjoy all the good stuff in your world of which you are blessed. May the goddesses be with us on Tuesday.
clap clap clap 8, for you and for the Goddesses and the voters who know what needs to happen next Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI love your attitude and gratitude. Last year JB and I had a propane stove installed in our living room and boy what a lovely difference it makes. Somehow there's not the same guilt as turning on the heat to chase away the chill.
Always a delight for me when you post. xoxo
love

Thanks for the stove idea. We have natural gas and it would be great to have some heat even when we lose power.
DeleteWhat a positive post. Thanks, 8, for the good cheer.
ReplyDeleteI'm super impressed with your sweet potatoes! Yes, the foliage is lovely but wow, those are real, edible tubers. Well done!
I'm also impressed with your macarons. I've always considered them difficult and fiddly. Yours look yummy! Mocha? Was there no Nutella at the bakery? Lol. Speaking of which, I laughed out loud when I scrolled down to the M&M's... ha! Your perfect sweet snack!
Funny about the earrings. Cats, what can you do?
And, the furnace - ouch. I had to replace mine a couple of years ago but found an awesome local company. A couple of weeks ago I had a problem with it and the guy came out and fixed it at NO CHARGE! 'That's why you hired me,' he said. Love that. Please stay warm while you get that taken care of!
All the best to you and your tribe!
oxoxoxoxo
There was no Nutella at this class but you can be sure that is what I'll be making at home. The teacher also made a raspberry ganache which was pretty awesome.
DeleteWe are also using a local company and I know the owner whose name I dropped in order to get us moved up on the list. Now I am racked with guilt that some 90 year old widow got bumped.
Interesting though, whenever I asked about the long delays, I was told that schools are funneling kids into academia (whether they are suited it to or not) and very few wind up going into the trades. It is becoming a huge problem here.
I used to have a cat that stole everything and hid it under the bed. Our present cat doesn't steal, she keeps a diary under our bed with all of our transgressions written down to remind her of the need for random revenge. At least it seems like that:)
ReplyDeleteIt's snowing heavy here and we have decided to stay home this weekend instead of heading to the mountains. I'm thankful.
Funny about your cat : ) Ours just can't stand to have anything on a counter or dresser - everything belongs on the floor.
DeleteI love the snow and don't mind the cold but these days I wouldn't mind a shorter winter. How you folks in Canada do it I do not know.
Love this post and you too! Those m&m's look so delicious - let's meet at the m&m store in Times Square and buy a bunch to eat while we catch up in person! I don't love that you don't have heat, but yes for down comforters keeping us warm and those cookies look divine!
ReplyDeleteThere is only one thing that would make me go into Times Square these days - the theater. Now there is two : )
DeleteWhen you planted the sweet potatoes were they one's you had in the house to eat, or were they special ones bought just for planting?
ReplyDeleteI start rooting a sweet potato, bought from the grocery store, in the winter in my basement. I am told that some store bought potatoes are treated so they don't sprout but I have never had a problem with them, although it is a slow process. Buying organic would probably be best. Next year I am going to try just cutting one up and planting it to see what it does.
DeleteI love everything about this post except your heat being out. May the weather stay reasonably moderate until the furnace is repaired.
ReplyDelete**I think the shortage of tradespeople is a national issue.**
Sigh.
Looking forward to more posts featuring macaroons. Swoon. :-)
The goddess completely ignored my pitiful state.
ReplyDeleteI had macarons for the first time in Quebec last year. Delicious! Were the sweet potatoes easy to grow? I need to try that.
