Full of Grace

It seems that after a rather rough July/August, the universe has decided to make amends and present me with glorious moments and ear to ear smiles. First was being able to share the Adele concert with my whole family. Then as soon as I returned, I packed to take a short vacation with my oldest daughter. She had called to say she would have a week off between quitting her part time jobs and starting her first full-time, professional job where she would not accumulate vacation time for at least six months. Could we please do something relaxing . . .

  • So very grateful for the internet which allowed me to find incredibly cheap, spur of the moment, non-stop flights to Florida.

  • Being able to wake up to this every morning

  • Spending one-on-one time with Beaner. Truth is, she is much closer to Martha than me, mostly because of the basketball connection. Having 5 days together, just us, was really fun.  And a little frightening - did I really need to hear about all those boyfriends???

  • Kayaking through Floridian canals.  Beaner choose a paddleboard.

  • And leaving Florida before the hurricane hits but not before seeing the sun set with a beautiful rainbow.

But lest anyone think my whole life is one big bowl of cherries - this past week I got so pissed off at my boss I wrote my letter of resignation. (I did not submit it . .  .yet), my dog got skunked for the 2nd time - yup, right after we finally finished washing all the drapes, bedding, walls and carpets from the last skunking, and next week I have to have surgery to have my gallbladder removed.

Life.  Never a dull moment.

  1. I am so glad that you and Beaner had the opportunity to take a relaxing trip together! Those times are fleeting. And thank you for sharing the glorious pictures with us! It looks lovely.

I'd like to think that your life was one big bowl of cherries. I know it isn't. I'm sorry that you have to go under the knife yet again. It seems like you just get past one ordeal and the next one pops up. Ugh.

And, dogs, bosses and skunks... all related, right? Well, bosses and skunks anyway.

    1. I always think of you and Zoe as an example of how great a mother/daughter relationship can extend beyond time and distance. We are very blessed.

I am running out of body parts to remove : )

Bosses and skunks. Right now my boss is like a dead skunk - he does absolutely nothing and yet he still manages to stink the place up. Fortunately I have options . . .

  2. Indeed, your bowl seems full of both cherries and pits! And stones! ;-) I hope surgery goes extremely well. So glad you had that time with your daughter. Time on water sounds lovely. Sorry about skunking. One of my cats got skunked in the eye a while back. Eye was not okay for a long while. Smell was not as bad as worrying about her eye. May for every pit, there is always a sweet cherry in your bowl of life!

    1. Thank you for the kind wishes.

I am grateful that I have so much sweetness and love in my life that it does make the inevitable pits easier to deal with.

  3. So glad you got a vacation BEFORE the surgery. Also glad you got out of Florida before the storm. I love that last photo with the rainbow. I'm looking forward to this weekend when Florida looks like that again.

    1. I was happy to see your post that the storm had passed you with less than expected impact. I hope the cleanup in the east goes quickly. It is such a beautiful, and resilient, landscape. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to enjoy it.

  4. Well I am glad you had some relaxing time away. I can totally relate to the work and skunking issues. I am having both in my life as well. Don't have the gall bladder issues, but serious hot flashes - and from what I hear - mood swings :) Hang in there and I hope your surgery goes well. I have to update my resume this weekend. But I fear I will just move to another place and get the same problems in a few months. Facetiming that little gal that calls me Grandma just melts it all away - at least for a minute or two :)

    1. I am lucky that I am already collecting my pension and can just walk away from this job if I want. It is a very nice position to be in, but it is not how I wanted my tenure to end. Right now I'm playing the role of advocate for others who are being crapped on, so there is some satisfaction from being able to do that.

I am not quite to grandma stage yet but agree that time with family is one of the best antidotes to the negative people out there.

      Still skunk hunting . . .

    1. So nice to hear from you KR! We need to catch up!

I agree with the ebb and flow of life. It's hard to appreciate all the flow without a few bumps in the road.

  6. Lovely photos. I want to do what you just did, have a holiday alone with my daughter. I think I'll need to arrange that somehow.

    Good luck with the surgery.
