Full of Grace

Binge watching Orange is the New Black with my daughters.  Although how very strange, and a little uncomfortable, to watch scenes of lesbian sex with them.

Spending a day with a woman from our Dept. of Environmental Conversation looking for evidence of female Indiana bats in the bark of trees.  Walking around the local woods on a beautiful day and getting paid for it.  I live a charmed life.

A no work and all play weekend at the lake.

The new steps and beach are complete at the cabin and I am very happy with them. We tried to have a beach slope down gently into the water but the wake from passing boats just eroded it away and it became a big mess.  I think this will last for a very long time and the steps are gentle enough for me to easily slide my kayak up and down.

That cable/internet has arrived at the lake and my family voted unanimously not to get it.   We get extremely limited phone service and Wifi there.  We get maybe three television network channels - if someone is on the roof playing with the antenna.  I thought my kids would be begging to get the cable. But they all agreed it was nice to disconnect digitally and to play family games and read and just enjoy the lake. There is hope.

    1. I took a few hundred off the bill because of the delays, so I suppose it was worth the wait : )

We started watching the show but only the first two episodes - we never went back to it... The steps look nice. I love all play weekends and that is awesome that there is no cable at the lake. I think we should all take a breather from electronics some times. During the summer we actually go to the library rather than download books - lol...

    1. I need to be away from electronics a lot and I don't even do FaceBook or Twitter. I just can't imagine living your life in front of a screen. So while I think my girls have their phones surgically attached to their hands, I am delighted that we all have a place to detox.

      The library . . . what a novel idea : )

Those steps are gorgeous! I <3 them! I also love that people (read children) were happy to be off the grid and able to connect as a family.

    1. Like you, I think our best family times together are when we are outside doing. It doesn't seem to matter what we are doing, just that there are no other distractions. It's all good.

  4. I am watching OITNB in the privacy of my own company, ahem.

You getting paid to walk in the woods is like me getting paid to eat. Nice work if you can get it.

Did you guys build those steps? They look amazing.

    1. I think I should be watching privately too.

We did not build the steps. Although we have many talents, hoisting 1,000 pound stones is not one of them. It took some mighty machinery to create this.

  5. I haven't completed the first season yet, the buffering is a pain. My daughter (watching on her own) couldn't get beyond the first episode. She absolutely wouldn't want to sit and watch with me.

    Love the steps.

    Yay disconnecting.

  6. The steps are gorgeous!

I am a little embarrassed to say (as a card carrying lesbian) that I haven't seen season 1 of OITNB, let alone started season 2. I barely saw any of The L Word, either. Fail.

I am absolutely delighted that the entire family is eschewing electronics at the cabin. Yay for that! When we took our spring break trip to Forks and La Push, there was virtually no internet and it made the whole trip even better. We posted pictures after the fact.

And, best of all, walking around looking at trees and getting paid for it. That, my friend, is my dream. I used to work for the Forest Service, and did indeed get paid to look at trees. Sadly, that job was seasonal and the kid needed to eat year round...

    Love all of this!

  7. Those steps are absolutely stunning!

All of these make me super happy. I love that you're not getting cable. I have cable where I live right now and have decided not to get it in my next place. I find myself falling in to TV a little too much.

I have to get a different blog reader. Everything shows up 3 days later.
