As an earlier commentator noted, when the war story ended so did the quality of the show, IMO. However, I did play catch up after reading your post.

First, thank you for being a voice for survivors and trying to educate people on the true realities of sexual assault and the damage Lauriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12576577477728532917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1931021721708713850.post-88525020224876677042014-01-25T08:29:40.783-05:002014-01-25T08:29:40.783-05:00@ Kurt

That series also dealt with difficult issues like rape and abortion. But I think Downton Abbey has totally gone off the rails. During the war years, everyone had something to do. Now what’s left? Upstairs they fret about land and money. Downstairs they fret about meals and cleanliness. Yawn. I never told him for fear of what he might do. I don't watch Downton Abbey but found the episode on-line. For me the scene was TOO real. They had a horrifying time trying to get people to believe them, going so far as placing flyers on windshields accusing a priest of molestation. Everyone thought their story was contrived and it took years for at least one person to take them seriously. As Kurt acknowledges, he is a (privileged) straight white male, albeit one who is unlikely to be a rapist, and his perceptions of what is believable in a description of rape is limited at best.

I donehttp://plufrompdx.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1931021721708713850.post-74318912761827329342014-01-23T10:02:07.426-05:002014-01-23T10:02:07.426-05:00I think I understand your point, although truthful...I think I understand your point, although truthfully, I too was troubled by the introduction of rape into this series. I did not feel the scene itself was contrived but rather I was upset that, once again, when they want to boost ratings, writers are quick to introduce violence against women.
